Cottage Pudding   I remember as a child that my mother
and aunts served this dessert often, but I haven't heard of it in
years. It is probably a depression recipe. The memorable thing about
this dessert is the distinctive Nutmeg Sauce. The recipe is simple and
very good.
Cake
1/4 c Crisco         2 t baking powder
3/4 c sugar         1/2 t salt
1 egg                  2/3 c milk
1 1/3 c flour        1 t vanilla

Cream Crisco, sugar, and eggs together. Mix and sift flour, baking powder and
salt together and add alternately with milk to Crisco mixture. Pour into
greased 8"x8" pan and bake for 35 min at 350 degrees. Cut into squares and
serve with Nutmeg Sauce.
